Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially launched the election campaign for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, delivering a powerful endorsement for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The upcoming polls are set to feature a direct confrontation between the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Mahagathbandhan, with the NDA aiming to retain its ruling position under Nitish Kumar’s guidance.

Addressing a large public rally in Samastipur, PM Modi expressed his conviction that the NDA would emerge victorious. He referred back to October 2005, the year Nitish Kumar assumed power and supposedly ended the ‘Jungle Raj’ era. Modi contrasted this with the prior decade under the Congress-RJD regime, alleging that the alliance created significant obstacles for Nitish Kumar and subjected the people of Bihar to hardship. He specifically claimed that the RJD retaliated against those who voted for Nitish Kumar.

“The Congress-RJD government put obstacles in Nitish Kumar’s path and left no stone unturned to trouble the people of Bihar. The RJD used to take revenge on the people of Bihar for voting for Nitish Kumar,” the Prime Minister declared. He also alleged that the RJD issued threats to the Congress, warning of withdrawing support if they accommodated Nitish Kumar or the NDA-BJP.

PM Modi conveyed his strong confidence in Nitish Kumar and the Janta Dal (United), forecasting a record-breaking victory for the NDA. “This time, under the leadership of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, NDA will break all its previous records of victory. Bihar will give NDA its biggest ever mandate,” he confidently stated.

In a tribute to socialist leader Karpoori Thakur, PM Modi described him as an inspiration for his government. Samastipur, an RJD stronghold since 2010, was chosen as a key venue for the campaign’s commencement. The NDA’s constituents are the BJP, JD(U), LJP (Ram Vilas), HAM (Secular), and RLM. The Mahagathbandhan comprises RJD, Congress, CPI-ML, CPI, CPM, and VIP. Notably, Jan Suraaj has announced its ambition to compete for all 243 seats in the state.
