Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced the establishment of the State Sanitation Workers Commission, designed to safeguard the interests of sanitation workers. This commission will focus on protection, welfare, rehabilitation, and address grievances of sanitation workers. It will also monitor welfare schemes and advise the government. The commission will consist of a chairperson, a vice-chairperson, and five members, with one member representing the woman/transgender community. The objective is to integrate sanitation workers into society and support their development. In response, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has stressed the importance of prioritizing the basic needs of these workers, including timely salaries and proper equipment. This announcement comes as the state anticipates the 2025 assembly elections, with several promises made by the CM, including free electricity, job creation, and increased pensions for journalists.
