The upcoming Bihar assembly elections have intensified political activity, with parties strategizing. The BJP has revealed its committees for the elections, but RK Singh, a former Union Minister and a significant Rajput figure, is absent. This absence is seen as a result of his apparent disagreements with the party.

Singh has denied reports of leaving the BJP, stating his continued commitment to the party. However, his exclusion from key committees has led to speculation about his future and the potential consequences of his actions, including the impact of his Rajput connections.

Singh has publicly criticized his party, accusing them of ignoring him and engaging in internal sabotage. He has also hinted at exploring alternative political paths. Although he has declared he will remain with the BJP, uncertainty surrounds his intentions.

Rumors suggest Singh might join Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj party, sparked by allegations of corruption against BJP figures. Party leaders are carefully monitoring Singh’s moves, particularly those that may impact the Rajput vote.

Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent visit to Bihar was seen by some as an attempt to address Singh’s dissent. While local leaders suggest Singh’s issues are personal, the BJP is implementing strategies to appease the Rajput community.

The BJP is taking steps to retain Rajput support, including featuring prominent Rajput leaders in the campaign and potentially involving Yogi Adityanath. Local leaders believe that Singh’s discontent will not affect the Rajput community, who will vote based on PM Modi’s policies and development.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Singh was defeated in Ara, blaming internal sabotage. The question is whether he will use the Rajput card to pressure the party, considering the community’s influence.

Recent caste census data shows Rajputs make up 3.45% of Bihar’s population. The Rajput community has shifted its political affiliations over time, with a strong alignment with the NDA since 2014.

The impact of the Rajput community can be seen in their representation in the assembly, with 20 MLAs in 2015 and 28 in 2020. The BJP-JDU and RJD-Congress alliances have all utilized Rajput candidates in the past. The BJP has fielded many Rajput candidates in previous elections, with varying outcomes, while the RJD and Congress have also experienced mixed success.
