Bihar is gearing up for its upcoming assembly elections, with the Election Commission actively involved in the preparations. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, will visit Bihar on October 4th and 5th to evaluate the election readiness. They will conduct meetings with the Chief Electoral Officer and other state officials to discuss and assess the current state of preparations.

A preparatory meeting involving observers appointed by the Election Commission will be held in Delhi on Friday. This gathering will include election observers, police officials, and other concerned authorities. Historically, the Election Commission announces election dates after a comprehensive review by its members. Therefore, the announcement of the Bihar election dates is anticipated to follow the visit, potentially after October 5th.

The Election Commission has finalized the deployment of 470 central observers, including 320 IAS and 60 IPS officers, to oversee the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar. These observers will also be responsible for overseeing by-elections in eight other states. The meeting for these observers will take place at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) in Dwarka, starting at 10 AM on Friday.

The Election Commission has completed the Systematic Inclusion and Revision (SIR) process and released the final voter list. This list incorporates 1.4 million new voters. Individuals can access and verify their details in the voter list via the link available on the commission’s website. Detailed information regarding the voter list is available at https://voters.eci.gov.in/.

As of June 24th, Bihar had 78.9 million voters before the SIR process began. After the draft list, 6.5 million voters were removed, leaving a total of 72.4 million. Furthermore, 400,000 ineligible voters were removed, and 2.1 million eligible voters were added through Form 6. The final voter list, released on September 30th, includes 74.1 million voters.
