As Bihar prepares for the 2025 Assembly elections, controversy has erupted over the electoral roll. Concerns have been raised about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), with allegations of errors and omissions. The central figure in the latest dispute is Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD’s CM candidate, who asserted that his name was missing from the draft voter list. He pointed out that he had filled out the enumeration form and asked how he could contest the election. The JDU responded, accusing Yadav of deceiving the public. The Patna district administration stated that Tejashwi Yadav’s name is on the list, but his polling station and serial number have been changed. This prompted Yadav to question how many people’s EPIC numbers had been altered. The Election Commission quickly refuted the claim that his name was missing. The JDU’s chief spokesperson called Tejashwi Yadav a ‘political fraud’. The SIR process allows voters and political parties to raise objections to discrepancies in the electoral roll between August 1 and September 1, 2025. The Election Commission has issued instructions and the objective is to include the names of all eligible citizens in the electoral roll in a transparent manner.
