With the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, the Nitish Kumar government is actively rolling out new policies and initiatives. Building on recent announcements, such as the increase in pensions for journalists, the government has taken a significant step forward for sanitation workers. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced the formation of the Bihar State Sanitation Workers Commission via social media.

The commission is designed to protect the rights and interests of sanitation workers, including their welfare and rehabilitation. It will also oversee the resolution of grievances and the implementation of various welfare schemes. The commission will consist of a chairman, a vice-chairman, and five members, with one position specifically reserved for a woman or a transgender person. This initiative aims to integrate marginalized sanitation workers into the mainstream and support their social and economic advancement. The government has also recently announced that all domestic consumers in the state will receive free electricity up to 125 units starting from August 1, 2025, impacting approximately 1.67 crore families.
