The Bihar government has allocated Rs 882.87 crore for the construction of the Mata Janaki temple at Punora Dham in Sitamarhi. The project is planned in three phases: upgrading the existing temple for Rs 137.34 crore, developing tourism infrastructure for Rs 728 crore, and allocating Rs 16.62 crore for maintenance over 10 years. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, which approved 24 agendas. Punora Dham, the birthplace of Devi Sita, holds significant religious and tourist value. The temple is being constructed similarly to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation is managing the project, including tendering and implementation, under the EPC model. This initiative aims to integrate Punora Dham into the Ramayana Circuit, thereby promoting tourism and connecting it with Ayodhya, catering to the spiritual needs of pilgrims and boosting tourism.
