Bihar is gearing up for assembly elections later this year, and Tej Pratap Yadav has further complicated the political scene. He has formed a new party called ‘Janshakti Janata Dal’ after separating from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). On August 17, he visited the Election Commission to register the party.

Tej Pratap Yadav and the party’s leadership met with the Chief Electoral Officer, presenting essential documents. The party’s origin dates back to 2020, and a close associate of Tej Pratap contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election under its banner, using the flute as their symbol.

This move followed a recent notice from the Election Commission to state parties, requiring them to update their registrations. This led to speculation about Tej Pratap leading the Janshakti Janata Dal.

The Election Commission recognized the Janshakti Janata Dal on Monday. Tej Pratap Yadav met with the Chief Electoral Officer for about 30 minutes and successfully registered the party under his name. After the meeting, he mentioned to the media that the purpose of his visit was to address the removal of voters’ names in the Mahua assembly constituency.

Tej Pratap also criticized the ‘Vot Adhikar Yatra’ being conducted by Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav in Bihar. He suggested it was not productive and that more attention should be given to issues like employment and education. He criticized their current focus.

Tej Pratap was expelled from the RJD for six years after a controversy regarding his relationship with Anushka Yadav surfaced. His father, Lalu Yadav, who leads the RJD, made the decision. Tej Pratap also declared his intention to contest the Mahua seat as an independent candidate.
