Major changes are anticipated in Bihar’s political scenario. Mungani Lal Mandal, formerly a Member of Parliament and the ex-National Vice President of the JDU, is expected to become the new state president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Sources close to the party suggest that Mandal’s appointment is almost certain, and he is scheduled to submit his nomination at the party office on June 14th, with Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav in attendance.

Discussions around restructuring the RJD organization have been underway for a while. The exit of current state president Jagdanand Singh is considered a foregone conclusion. The party is reportedly strategizing to bring in new leadership at the state level, with the goal of strengthening its support base among the Extremely Backward Classes and other social groups in the upcoming assembly elections.

Mungani Lal Mandal has a history with the RJD, but he later joined the JDU, where he held the position of National Vice President. However, in January 2025, he left the JDU to return to the RJD. During his return, he stated that injustice was being done to the Extremely Backward Classes within the JDU, and there was a lack of internal democracy.

According to inside reports, the official announcement of Mungani Lal Mandal as the RJD state president will be made on July 5th. The party’s move is seen as a significant effort to win over the Extremely Backward Classes. This shift points to a major strategic change for the RJD as it gears up for the upcoming elections.

The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections are seeing a rapid transformation in the political landscape. The Mahagathbandhan and the NDA are both making adjustments to their strategies, and new parties are also joining the electoral fray. This election indicates new equations and shifts in Bihar politics. Prashant Kishor has forecasted the removal of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Nitish Kumar from power in the approaching assembly elections. His campaign centers on honest politics and ushering in leadership change.
