Before the elections in Bihar, the state is witnessing heightened political turmoil following a death threat directed towards the SDM East of Muzaffarpur. The SDM, Amit Kumar, was targeted with a threatening message and a demand for money via WhatsApp, creating a tense situation. The message, sent from an unknown number, demanded extortion. When the SDM replied, he was threatened with damage to his image. The threatening message was sent on the evening of August 15th.

It has been revealed that a former JDU leader is allegedly responsible for issuing the death threat and demanding money through WhatsApp. This development has created a stir in the administrative and political circles of the district. Following the threat, the SDM promptly lodged a written complaint at the Sadar police station. The FIR registered by SDM East includes various serious charges such as obstructing government work, extortion, and defamation.

Acting swiftly, the police arrested Sanjeev Kumar Rajan from Patahi. Rajan is identified as a former JDU district vice-president of the Mahanagar Kisan Prakoshth. He was the metropolitan vice-president of the Kisan Prakoshth three years ago. JDU district president Rambabu Singh Kushwaha mentioned that Rajan was previously associated with the Kisan Prakoshth, but currently has no connection with the party.

Vinita Sinha, City DSP II, stated that after filing the FIR, the police apprehended the accused and presented him before the court, which subsequently placed him in judicial custody. The accused’s current affiliation with any political party is denied. The police are investigating the accused’s criminal history.

In the FIR, SDO East Amit Kumar stated that he was in Patahi on government duty on August 15th at 7:55 PM when he received the threatening WhatsApp message. The message included a demand for extortion, threats, and a warning of damage to his reputation. In response to this, he filed an FIR at the Sadar police station against the mobile number holder.
