In a significant update, the Election Commission has announced that approximately 49.6 million voters in Bihar will no longer have to provide extra documentation. The EC has made the 2003 electoral rolls available on its website, https://voters.eci.gov.in, ensuring easy access to voter information.

Under the June 24 guidelines, the 2003 electoral rolls will be provided to all BLOs in hard copy. They are also available online, enabling voters to download them and use them as proof when completing enumeration forms.

This move is a part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign in Bihar. The Election Commission estimates that around 60% of voters will avoid submitting documents. They just need to verify their details in the 2003 list and fill out the enumeration form, streamlining the process for voters and BLOs.

Moreover, if someone’s name is not on the 2003 list, they can use the list to confirm their parents’ names. In such cases, separate documents for parents aren’t needed. These voters need only submit their personal documents with the enumeration form.

The revision of voter lists is essential. It keeps the list current with updates due to deaths, relocations, and new voters. As per Article 326 of the Constitution, Indian citizens aged 18 or older, residing in the relevant constituency, are eligible to vote.
