The Bihar government, under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, has disbursed seven thousand rupees to the bank accounts of 651,602 families impacted by recent floods. This initiative provides compensation for flood damages and isn’t part of a pre-existing government program. The floods caused widespread destruction in Buxar, Bhagalpur, Arrah, Katihar, and other districts, resulting in displacement and significant agricultural losses.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar previously conducted an aerial assessment of the areas affected by the floods. The financial aid was distributed during a program held in Patna, and the Chief Minister shared the news on X.

On X, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar stated that a total of 456.12 crore rupees had been transferred via DBT, providing 7,000 rupees to each of the 651,602 affected families. He highlighted the state’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of disaster victims and the government’s dedication to serving the people. He also cautioned people to remain vigilant throughout September.

The rising water levels in the Ganges and other rivers have affected an estimated 38 lakh people in over 60 blocks across 12 districts, including Patna, Begusarai, Munger, and Nalanda. With the flood situation still critical, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has directed officials to remain on high alert and offer all possible support to the affected families.
