Chhattisgarh’s security forces have successfully neutralized 18 Naxalites, including a key Maoist commander, during a major encounter in the Bijapur district. The operation unfolded in the dense forests along the Bijapur-Dantewada district border, as security forces conducted a targeted anti-Naxal offensive. The engagement resulted in substantial losses for the Naxalite cadres.

Authorities reported the recovery of a significant arsenal of weapons and ammunition from the encounter site. This included powerful firearms such as AK-47 and INSAS rifles, demonstrating the rebels’ access to advanced weaponry. The neutralized commander, Modiyam Vella, was a high-ranking PLGA operative implicated in numerous violent incidents, notably the 2020 Minpa ambush that led to the deaths of 17 security personnel. His elimination marks a critical success for law enforcement.

However, the operation also led to the tragic demise of three dedicated DRG personnel, with two others injured. This year has seen a substantial number of Naxalites neutralized in Chhattisgarh, totaling 275. Despite these gains, the ongoing struggle against insurgency has claimed the lives of 23 security personnel across the state, highlighting the persistent dangers faced by those on the front lines.
