The number of casualties in the Bilaspur train accident has risen to 11, with 20 individuals sustaining injuries. The fatal crash took place on Tuesday afternoon when a MEMU passenger train, en route from Gevra to Bilaspur, collided with a stationary goods train. Reports indicate the passenger train may have breached a red signal.

The severity of the collision was such that a passenger coach was displaced onto a wagon of the cargo train. In the wake of this tragedy, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has declared ₹5 lakh in ex-gratia for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured. Free medical care is also being provided to all those affected.
