Saturday marked a significant day for Jharkhand as the state celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of its iconic leader, Bhagwan Birsa Munda, alongside the 25th anniversary of its own foundation. Ulihatu, Munda’s birthplace, was a scene of vibrant festivities, with the name ‘Dharti Aba’ echoing throughout the area. A large number of people, including devotees, villagers, public representatives, and national visitors, gathered to pay homage by adorning Birsa Munda’s statue with garlands.

The official ceremony saw the presence of Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan and Chief Minister Hemant Soren, accompanied by Union Minister Jual Oram, MP Kalicharan Munda, former Union Minister Arjun Munda, and state MLAs, as well as the Chief Secretary.

Governor Radhakrishnan, speaking at Ulihatu’s Birsa Munda Complex, lauded the historical pride and sacrifices of tribal communities in the nation’s struggle for independence. He proposed the erection of a grand statue of Birsa Munda in his birthplace, envisioning Ulihatu as a model village and a key tourist destination. He urged for a deep appreciation of one’s homeland, language, and culture.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren emphasized that Jharkhand was born out of the immense sacrifices of its heroes and that the present generation must strive to build the state according to their vision. He assured that his government is dedicated to understanding the challenges faced by all sections of society by actively visiting villages. Soren highlighted the government’s proactive approach towards the holistic development of tribal and indigenous communities, placing them at the center of its welfare programs. He noted that a substantial portion of government spending is channeled towards empowering women and supporting rural communities. Characterizing his administration as one driven by the needs of the villages, he committed to ensuring development reaches every doorstep. As Jharkhand turns 25, the Chief Minister expressed his determination to work with the youth to make the state a national leader.

Soren addressed the historical difficulties in accessing healthcare and education and detailed the government’s ongoing efforts to improve these essential services and empower women. He also outlined forthcoming strategic initiatives focused on advancing the state’s capabilities in sports, tourism, job creation, and infrastructure development. The event concluded with renewed wishes for Jharkhand’s continued progress and a solemn tribute to Dharti Aba Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
