The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has finalized its candidate list for the upcoming assembly by-elections scheduled for November, which will occur simultaneously with the Bihar assembly elections. Notable nominations include Aga Syed Mohsin for the Budgam seat in Jammu and Kashmir and Babulal Soren for the Ghatsila constituency in Jharkhand. These electoral contests are poised to reshape local political dynamics.

The Election Commission has confirmed that polling for by-elections across eight constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Telangana, Punjab, Odisha, and Mizoram will take place on November 11. The tabulation of votes will follow on November 14. These by-elections are crucial for political parties to demonstrate their influence and connect with voters in these specific regions.

Specifically, the BJP has nominated Aga Syed Mohsin for the Budgam constituency (27) in Jammu and Kashmir. The party has also listed Aga Syed Mohsin and Sushri Devyani Rana as candidates for the Nagrota constituency (77). In Jharkhand, Babulal Soren will contest from the Ghatsila (ST) constituency (45). The BJP’s candidate for Odisha’s Nuapada constituency (71) is Jay Dholakia, and Lankala Deepak Reddy will compete for the Jubilee Hills seat (61) in Telangana.

The reasons for these by-elections are varied. Budgam’s vacancy arose when Omar Abdullah opted to retain his Ganderbal constituency. Nagrota’s seat is vacant due to the death of BJP MLA Devender Singh Rana. In Rajasthan, the Anta constituency by-election is necessitated by the disqualification of BJP MLA Kanwar Lal Meena. The Ghatsila seat in Jharkhand became vacant following the demise of JMM leader Ramdas Soren. Telangana’s Jubilee Hills seat is open after the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath. Punjab’s Tarn Taran seat by-election is a result of the passing of AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal. Odisha’s Nuapada seat is vacant after the death of BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia, and Mizoram’s Dampa seat by-election is due to the death of MNF MLA Lalrintluanga Sailo.
