New Zealand has finalized its squad for the inaugural Test against the West Indies, set to commence on December 2nd in Christchurch, with the notable return of former skipper Kane Williamson to the Test squad. This 14-player selection represents a thoughtful blend of established cricketers and emerging talent as the Black Caps gear up for their next chapter in Test cricket.

Williamson, who last played in the Test format in December 2024, has been deliberately selective, recently stepping away from T20 internationals to dedicate his efforts to longer versions of the game. His comeback for the Test series against the West Indies is a welcome addition, bolstering New Zealand’s batting prowess and underscoring his commitment to extending his Test career and contributing to potential ICC Test Championship successes.

The squad list features key senior players and exciting prospects, comprising: Tom Latham (captain), Tom Blundell, Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Nathan Smith, Blair Tickner, Kane Williamson, and Will Young.

The bowling department appears well-equipped, with spin bowling options from Mitchell Santner and Rachin Ravindra, while the pace attack is spearheaded by Matt Henry and Blair Tickner. Fast bowler Kyle Jamieson has been omitted from the initial squad as he undergoes a monitored recovery from a prolonged injury spell.

Young fast bowlers such as Zak Foulkes, who captured nine wickets on his debut, and Jacob Duffy and Nathan Smith, are being given opportunities to develop. The synergy between captain Tom Latham and the experienced Kane Williamson is expected to provide significant leadership and tactical depth for New Zealand in this important series.
