The assault on a storyteller in Uttar Pradesh has led to a significant development in Bihar, where a village has taken action to prevent similar incidents. In Tikulia village of East Champaran district, authorities have banned Brahmins from performing religious rituals, resulting in widespread displays of protest.

The village’s protest takes the form of clear and direct messaging: “Brahmins are strictly prohibited from performing puja-path in this village; punishment will be given if caught.” This declaration can be seen on various public displays throughout the village.

During discussions, villagers explained that their concern revolves around Brahmins who lack sufficient knowledge of the Vedas and engage in practices that are not considered appropriate. They emphasize their respect for learned individuals, irrespective of their caste. The villagers believe that restrictions based on caste are against the law and undermine social harmony. The community hopes this stance fosters unity and justice.

In response, local law enforcement have intervened, removing the offensive signs and searching for those responsible. The community calls upon the government to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
