Center Raises Kharif MSP: MP CM Yadav Celebrates Farmer Victory
1 min readIn a major relief for kharif growers, the Central government has approved higher MSPs for 14 crops targeting the 2026-27 season, a decision that Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has hailed as transformative. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by PM Modi, greenlit the revisions on Wednesday, drawing immediate praise from Bhopal.
Yadav lauded the step as pivotal for bolstering farm incomes across the nation, with MP’s millions of farmers poised for substantial gains. ‘The Modi government’s farmer-first approach is evident in such decisive actions,’ he said, underscoring the role in agricultural resilience.
Agriculture drives MP’s economic engine, making this MSP uptick a cornerstone for progress. The CM spotlighted state-level drives for 2026’s ‘Farmer Welfare Year,’ featuring tech showcases, scheme awareness camps, and skill-building workshops on progressive farming.
These programs aim to maximize yields and integrate the new MSP benefits seamlessly. Detailed hikes include a standout Rs 622/quintal for sunflower, Rs 557 for cotton, Rs 515 for niger seeds, and Rs 500 for sesame.
The Centre forecasts robust margins: moong leading at 61% over costs, bajra and corn at 56%, pigeon pea at 54%, black gram at 51%, and a solid 50% for finger millet, hybrid sorghum, and paddy. Oilseeds portfolio – peanut, sunflower, soy, sesame, niger – mirrors this at ~50%.
This policy reinforces India’s farm sector, promising equitable returns and encouraging crop diversification. For MP farmers, it’s not just higher prices but a holistic push towards empowerment and sustainability.
