Fuel Availability Normal in India Despite Demand Spike

Indian authorities have clarified that there is no shortage of petrol or diesel, and LPG supplies are proceeding without disruption. Recent instances of pumps limiting fuel sales are being addressed, with restrictions expected to be lifted soon. The current demand surge is linked to three primary causes. Agricultural activity during the harvest period has boosted diesel consumption, while elevated pricing by private retailers has redirected customers to government-operated stations. Commercial buyers previously relying on market-priced fuel have also transitioned to public sector supplies. Officials stressed that Russian crude oil imports remain steady, with BPCL increasing its share to 41 percent in the latest quarter. This move comes as part of broader diversification efforts in response to Middle East instability. The government continues to work with oil marketing companies to ensure that fuel reaches consumers efficiently and without shortages.
