Gold Silver Prices Fall Amid Dollar Strength and Oil Rally

In a classic display of inverse correlation, gold and silver prices in India slid Thursday as the US dollar gathered steam. Domestic markets echoed global declines, with losses reaching 1.6% on heightened crude oil prices tied to US-Iran discord. At MCX, the June 2026 gold contract stood at 1,52,111 rupees by 9:56 AM, off 0.36% or 546 rupees. It marked intraday lows of 1,51,719 rupees and highs of 1,52,200 rupees. The May 2026 silver contract plunged 1.61% or 3,987 rupees to 2,44,377 rupees, trading between 2,42,220 rupees and 2,44,730 rupees. Internationally, Comex spot gold dipped 0.68% to 4,720 dollars per ounce, with silver tumbling 2.43% to 76 dollars per ounce. Blame falls on the dollar index's 0.11% uptick past 98.50. Precious metals often falter when the dollar rises, deterring international buyers. Oil's surge played a pivotal role: Brent crude up 1.22% at 103 dollars/barrel and WTI up 1.36% at 94 dollars/barrel, driven by Middle East tensions. This index tracks the dollar versus major peers—euro, yen, sterling, Canadian dollar, krona, and franc—highlighting America's economic clout. Investors should monitor Fed rhetoric and oil dynamics closely. While today's selloff stings, it may precede a rebound if safe-haven demand surges anew.
