Gold Silver Prices Jump 2.7% on Weak Dollar Index

In a classic display of inverse correlation, gold and silver prices surged nearly 2.7% on the MCX Wednesday morning, propelled by a weakening Dollar Index that fell 0.17% to 98.14. This index tracks the dollar's health versus six major currencies: euro, yen, pound sterling, Canadian dollar, Swedish krona, and Swiss franc. The June 2026 gold contract opened strongly at ₹1,52,000, up 1.5% or ₹2,247 from the prior close of ₹1,49,753. Trading at 9:47 AM showed it at ₹1,51,838—a 1.39% or ₹2,085 gain—with intraday highs reaching ₹1,52,182 and lows at ₹1,51,653. Silver's July 2026 contract didn't lag, launching at ₹2,49,316 after a 2.04% or ₹5,000 jump from ₹2,44,316. It later hit ₹2,50,900, boasting a 2.69% or ₹6,584 increase. The metal fluctuated between ₹2,49,316 low and ₹2,52,000 high during early deals. International cues aligned perfectly, as Comex gold advanced 1.92% to $4,656 per ounce and silver climbed 3.45% to $76.12/oz. The rupee's 0.12% appreciation to ₹95.07 against the dollar amplified the positive import cost dynamics for these assets. Experts note that dollar weakness routinely lifts precious metals, enhancing their appeal as stores of value amid global risks. This session's performance comes against a backdrop of anticipated US economic releases, which could sway Fed rate decisions and currency trends. For retail and institutional players in India, the uptick offers fresh opportunities in a market known for its volatility. As safe-haven demand persists—driven by everything from stock market jitters to ongoing conflicts—gold and silver's allure endures. This rally serves as a reminder of their enduring place in investment strategies worldwide.
