Friday's bullion bazaar in Mumbai delivered drama aplenty, with Middle East tensions fueling a split performance: gold in freefall, silver skyrocketing by nearly 2,500 rupees per kilogram to cap the week.
IBJA figures show 999 gold at 1,47,218 rupees/10g, shedding 671 rupees from Thursday's 1,47,889. The sell-off builds on prior weakness amid global headwinds.
Silver flipped the script, hitting 2,32,364 rupees/kg (999 purity), a 2,491-rupee leap from 2,29,873. This bounce reflects opportunistic buying.
Zoom out to the week: gold down 11,181+ rupees/10g from 1,58,399 last Friday; silver off 28,124+ rupees/kg from 2,60,488 – a brutal correction.
MCX futures were a rollercoaster. April gold rose 1,870 rupees (1.29%) to 1,46,824 late Friday. May silver added 2,652 rupees (1.15%) to 2,34,112/kg.
Gold April: opened 1,48,302, high 1,48,457, low 1,45,700. Silver May: opened 2,39,948, high 2,40,000, low 2,30,060 – pure volatility.
Blame it on Gulf hotspots, oil swings, dollar dances, and US-Iran noise. Experts say, 'Tension trades are amplifying moves, with silver's industrial demand providing upside buoyancy.'
Heading into the weekend, caution prevails. Silver's resilience could herald a rotation, but gold's woes signal persistent risk aversion. Stay tuned for fresh cues.
