Mittal to Groom Airtel Heirs for Top Job by 2034
1 min readVisionary entrepreneur Sunil Bharti Mittal is charting a clear path for Bharti Airtel’s future leadership. In Thursday’s conference call, he disclosed ambitions to entrust the company to the next generation over the coming 10 years.
Reconfirmed as Chairman from October 2026 for five years, alongside Nisaba Godrej’s renewed independent role, Mittal’s plan emphasizes mentorship and transition. His words: ‘I aim to transfer responsibilities to the new generation within 10 years.’
Turning to numbers, Airtel’s India mobile segment delivered Rs 28,831 crore in Q4 FY26 revenues, up 8.3%, propelled by base expansion and ARPU at Rs 257—up from Rs 245.
Consolidated profit dropped sharply 33.5% to Rs 7,325 crore due to tax-related write-offs, but yearly revenue soared past Rs 2 lakh crore. Q4 revenue jumped 15.6% to Rs 55,383 crore, with Africa contributing a robust 40% growth.
Unhappy with Q4 performance, Mittal targets ARPU upliftment as the next battleground. Shares rallied over 3% Friday, as investors eye Airtel’s 65 crore+ user milestone and operational strength.
This announcement arrives amid Airtel’s aggressive investments in infrastructure and digital services. By nurturing successors, Mittal ensures the company’s legacy endures, ready to tackle global challenges with innovative leadership.
