New Labour Code: Annual Free Checkups for 40+ Workers Start Soon
1 min readIndia’s workforce is getting a health revolution. On May 7, Union Labour Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya launches free annual medical checkups for over-40 insured workers nationwide, fulfilling key promises of the reformed Labour Codes.
The flagship event at New Delhi’s ESIC Medical College, Basai Darapur, coincides with launches in 11 other ESIC hospitals. Dignitaries including state ministers and lawmakers will participate, per the Ministry’s Wednesday statement.
This flagship effort embodies PM Modi’s ‘Shramev Jayate’ ethos, prioritizing worker respect and security. Four consolidated Labour Codes replace 29 outdated laws, streamlining regulations, promoting formal jobs, and widening safety nets.
The Social Security Code 2020 pioneers inclusion for unorganized and gig workers, funds dedicated protections, and enhances ESIC services. Central to it: compulsory annual screenings for 40+ beneficiaries, leveraging ESIC hospitals for early intervention and sustained monitoring.
No exceptions for danger zones—workers with chemicals, toxins, or machinery get age-agnostic exams. Integrated record-keeping ensures proactive health management.
This bold step upgrades occupational health, democratizes healthcare access, and fuels the journey to Viksit Bharat 2047, ensuring every labourer thrives.
