Rs 2 Milk Price Hike: Mother Dairy Joins Amul in Increase
1 min readMother Dairy’s latest price revision of Rs 2 per litre across milk categories, effective May 14, 2026, underscores the dairy industry’s struggle with soaring farmer costs. Coming hot on the heels of Amul’s hike, it highlights systemic pressures in India’s massive milk economy.
A company spokesperson attributed the move to a 6% year-on-year climb in procurement prices, despite attempts to absorb the burden. ‘We pass on just a portion of these costs to maintain equilibrium between farmer incomes and consumer prices,’ they noted. Remarkably, 75-80% of sales proceeds go straight to procurement and farmers, fostering sustainable supply.
New pricing details: Bulk milk Rs 58/litre (previously Rs 56), full cream Rs 72 (Rs 70), toned Rs 60 (Rs 58), double toned Rs 54 (Rs 52), cow milk Rs 62 (Rs 60), Pro Milk Rs 72 (Rs 70). This is the first change since April 2025.
Amul’s parallel update affects flagship products: Amul Taaza 1L at Rs 57, 500ml at Rs 29; cow milk 500ml Rs 30; Shakti 500ml Rs 32; Tea Special 1L Rs 66; Gold 500ml Rs 35; Buffalo 500ml Rs 39. As these brands dominate urban markets, the dual hikes may fuel debates on dairy subsidies and cost pass-throughs, with implications for nutrition security and inflation control.
