Semiconductor GCCs in India Add 3,549 Jobs in First Quarter Surge
1 min readA hiring frenzy has gripped India’s semiconductor Global Capability Centers (GCCs), with open positions reaching 3,549 in the first three months of the year. The CareerNet report, unveiled Thursday, underscores how this sector is outpacing expectations, propelled by smaller GCCs that dominate 50% of the center tally.
While Bengaluru leads, Hyderabad’s ascent as a burgeoning hub is reshaping the map. These specialized centers, comprising 5% of all Indian GCCs, have compounded at 7.2% growth yearly for two decades, with premium demand for VLSI and software pros.
The quarter’s progression was telling: from 2,426 roles in January, numbers swelled to 3,077 in February and capped at 3,549 in March. This isn’t random—it’s a deliberate strategy by agile centers to preempt talent wars.
CareerNet’s Neelabh Shukla explained the evolution: ‘Semiconductor hiring was once the domain of giants. Today, SMEs are leading, proactively assembling squads without awaiting market signals.’ Strategically rooted in America, the action is migrating to JAPAC—India specifically—evident in Hyderabad and Bengaluru’s expansions.
Hiring splits show VLSI claiming 37-45%, app and system software at 39-46%, and support functions like ops and IT at 10-18%. This data heralds a transformative phase, bolstering India’s ambitions in chip manufacturing and design amid global tech realignments.
