The BSE Sensex opened at 77,816.45, down 0.46 per cent from the previous close of 78,180.72, and continued to lose momentum throughout the session. By the close, it was down 2.15 per cent, erasing more than 1,900 points to finish at 76,503.60. The fall mirrored the Nifty 50, which opened at 24,259.55 and later touched an intraday low of 23,805.20, a 2.43 per cent decline. The slide was largely driven by a 6 per cent jump in global crude benchmarks, pushing Brent near $80 a barrel and WTI above $75.
