Why Gold and Silver Are Rising Pre-Fed Meet

Anticipation is building in commodity circles as gold and silver notched gains of up to 1.31% on Tuesday's MCX session, primed for the US Federal Reserve's rate outlook. Soaring oil and global conflicts are amplifying the metals' safe-haven status.

The April 2026 gold futures contract gained 1,061 rupees, a 0.68% rise, settling at 156,797 rupees per 10 grams around 9:41 AM. Trading stayed range-bound, from 156,649 to 156,996 rupees.

Silver's May 2026 contract shone brighter, up 3,353 rupees or 1.31% to 259,885 rupees, with extremes at 258,338 and 261,457 rupees.

Triggering the move: The Fed's two-day summit from March 17, verdict on March 18. A 50%+ oil price leap in 30 days, courtesy of Middle East tensions, stokes inflation debates.

Months of rate-cut bets have fueled prior rallies. Yet, steady rates or oil-fueled price warnings could spell headwinds, fostering investor vigilance.

Experts note this as classic positioning ahead of policy pivots. Dovish Fed rhetoric might extend the uptrend; hawkish notes could trigger sales. With stakes high, the metals' trajectory remains fluid.
