  • From Punjab To MP To Maharashtra, Exodus Continues In Congress Benefiting BJP.

New Delhi: Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections 2024, the exodus in the Congress has continued to hurt the grand old party. What is surprising is that even in states like Punjab or Maharashtra where the party stands a good chance against the NDA, the Congress leaders are switching to the BJP. On Tuesday alone, three Congress leaders – three-time Lok Sabha MP from Punjab Raveent Singh Bittu, former Congress MLA Shashank Bhargava in Madhya Pradesh and senior Congress leader Namdeo Usendi in Maharashtra joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

    Raveena Singh Bittu In Punjab

BJP gained a notable boost in Punjab on Tuesday with the joining of three-term Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu. His decision to switch to the BJP underscores shifting political dynamics in Punjab. Bittu is a grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beam Singh and a current MP from Ludhiana.

On joining the BJP after quitting Congress, Ravneet Singh Bittu praised PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their good work in the development of the country. “The Prime Minister and the Home Minister always took it positively whenever I raised the issues of Punjab. We want to take Punjab forward. When the country is benefitting, why should Punjab be left behind?” Bittu said.

After joining the party, Ravneet Singh Bittu went to meet BJP national president JP Nadda at his residence in Delhi. Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja said that this is a sad moment for the party but his decision will not affect the party. “I am deeply hurt by the way Ravneet Singh Bittu has left the party but it will cause no damage to the party. Even if he wins, he will be reduced to a mere MP. But what he has left behind is far more significant- his identity as Sardar Beant Singh's grandson, who was a strong pillar of the Congress,” Raja said.

    Shashank Bhargava From Madhya Pradesh

Former Congress MLA Shashank Bhargava joined BJP in Bhopal in the presence of Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav, former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state BJP chief VD Sharma. As former Congress MLA Shashank Bhargava joined the party, Chouhan claimed that the BJP is the only party through which the country and people can served.

    Namdeo Use In Maharashtra

The senior Congress leader Namdeo Usend from Nagpur resigned from the primary membership of the Congress party today and later joined the BJP. This comes amid the talks in the Maha Vikas Aghadi about the seat sharing for the Lok Sabha polls.

  • DNA: Analyzing Possibilities Of President's Rule In Delhi |

New Delhi: Delhi's liquor scandal has become a major headache for the Aam Aadmi Party with three prominent leaders already behind bars and now Delhi Arvind Kejriwal in ED custody till March 28.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was taken into custody by the ED in March 2022 in connection with the liquor scam case. Vijay Nair, the Communication Head of the Aam Aadmi Party, was arrested by the ED in November 2022. Additionally, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh was apprehended by the ED on October 4, 2023. Most recently, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was detained by the ED after questioning on the night of March 21, 2024.

Following the arrest of the Delhi CM, the question of how the government will function in the national capital, or whether President's rule will be imposed, is now at the forefront of people's minds.

In Today's DNA, Zee News anchor Sourabh Raaj Jain analyzed the conditions of the President's rule in the national capital as Delhi CM goes to ED's custody.

Following the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, discussions have arisen regarding the potential imposition of the President's rule in Delhi. Experts speculate about the circumstances under which this could occur. If Kejriwal remains adamant about governing from jail and refuses to resign, the Lieutenant Governor may opt for the imposition of President's rule as a last resort.

    DNA: 'Government' itself 'arrested'. Is President's rule going to be imposed in Delhi? #DNA #DNAWithSourabh #ArvindKejriwal #AamAadmiParty #ArvindKejriwalArrested@saurabhraajjain pic.twitter.com/j9xGUa5RJX — Zee News (@ZeeNews) March 22, 2024

Two primary grounds could justify the imposition of President's rule in Delhi. Firstly, if the government is deemed incapable of functioning by the Constitution, whether in a union territory or a full state. Secondly, if the state government consistently fails to implement directives from the central government, thereby necessitating intervention.

Under Article 239 AA of the Constitution, the Lieutenant Governor can recommend to the President the suspension of the government in Delhi. Additionally, under Article 239 AB, the Lieutenant Governor can attribute the breakdown of constitutional machinery as grounds for the imposition of the President's rule.

Considering Delhi's status as a union territory, the role of the Lieutenant Governor becomes pivotal. Failure to resign by Kejriwal could prompt the Lieutenant Governor to cite a breakdown in the constitutional machinery. Consequently, Kejriwal may be forced to step down as Chief Minister.

Article 356 of the Constitution allows for the imposition of President's rule in any state if the constitutional machinery fails or faces significant challenges. With Kejriwal in custody and the Aam Aadmi Party's leadership depleted, the Lieutenant Governor may move to impose President's rule in Delhi.

  • MGNREGA Wage Hike And Congress' Guarantees: Will It Impact 2024 Lok Sabha Polls? ,

NEW DELHI: As India braces itself for the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a significant development in the realm of rural employment has emerged, potentially altering the electoral calculus. The Ministry of Rural Development has been authorized by the Election Commission of India to announce revised wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) for the upcoming financial year, which has sparked discussions and debates across the political spectrum.

    The Significance Of MGNREGA

MGNREGA, a flagship rural employment scheme of the erstwhile UPA regime guaranteeing 100 days of work each year for every rural household, was enacted in 2005. It holds immense significance in India's socio-economic landscape. Aimed at providing livelihood security to rural households by guaranteeing 100 days of wage employment in a financial year, MGNREGA plays a pivotal role in alleviating poverty, boosting rural incomes, and enhancing agricultural productivity. The MGNREGA was initiated with the objective of “enhancing livelihood security in rural areas by providing at least 100 days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year, to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work”. Another aim of MGNREGA is to create durable assets (such as roads, canals, ponds and wells). Employment is to be provided within 5 km of an applicant's residence, and minimum wages are to be paid. If work is not provided within 15 days of applying, applicants are entitled to an unemployment allowance. Thus, employment under MGNREGA is a legal entitlement.

    Implications Of The Wage Hike

The authorization to announce revised wages under MGNREGA comes at a critical juncture – the Model Code of Conduct is in force across the country and the Lok Sabha elections are just a few days away. The decision to raise minimum wages to Rs 400 per day, if implemented, holds profound implications for millions of rural households dependent on MGNREGA for sustenance.

    Political Ramifications

From a political standpoint, the timing of the wage hike announcement is noteworthy. As political parties intensify their election campaigns, issues related to rural development, farmer welfare, and employment generation take center stage. The MGNREGA wage hike could potentially sway voter sentiment in rural constituencies, where agrarian distress and unemployment remain pressing concerns.

    Congress' Guarantees

In a bid to bolster its electoral prospects and resonate with diverse segments of society, the Congress party has further unveiled a comprehensive set of guarantees targeting farmers, women, workers, unemployed youths, and backward communities.

    What Are Major Congress' Guarantees?

Farmers: The Congress has promised to overhaul existing agricultural policies, including amending the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime to exempt agricultural materials, redesigning the PM Fasal Bima Yojana to ensure timely compensation for crop loss, establishing a Standing Farm Loan Waiver Commission, and enacting legislation to grant Minimum Support Price (MSP) legal status.

Workers: The party has pledged to review labor codes, raise MGNREGA wages, pass a right-to-health law, and introduce an urban employment guarantee scheme.

Women: Congress aims to empower women through various initiatives, including social security measures and participatory justice programs.

Unemployed Youths: The party has proposed measures to address youth unemployment through skill development programs and job creation initiatives.

Backward Communities: Congress has committed to conducting a comprehensive social, economic, and caste census, removing the 50% cap on reservations, and allocating budgetary resources proportionate to the population share of Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST).

The confluence of the MGNREGA wage hike and Congress' guarantees underscores the pivotal role of socio-economic welfare policies in shaping the electoral discourse. As political parties vie for voter support, issues of rural development, farmer welfare, and inclusive growth take precedence, setting the stage for a fiercely contested electoral battle in 2024.
