  • Stars who can replace Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja in T20Is for Team India | Cricket News

Three big names of Indian cricket have called it time from T20 internationals and it is Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli with Ravindra Jadeja saying goodbye to T20I cricket. While the Indian skipper leave the format as leading run-scorer with 4231 runs, the star batter Kohli finished second in the list with 4188 runs for the time being. The departure of these three big icons means India will have to fill the squad with just more than talent as they take away plenty of experience from the side as well.

Here are some cricketers who can replace their seniors of Indian cricket…

    Shubman Gill

Deemed as ‘Prince Of Cricket’ by his fans, Shubman Gill has been a regular fit for India in the white-ball format. However, he could make the cut in this T20 World Cup squad as the team wanted different combinations. He will lead the Men in Blue in the upcoming Zimbabwe.

    Abhishek Sharma

He plays much like Rohit Sharma with an aggressive approach from the beginning of his career and has had a stellar IPL season in Sunrisers Hyderabad.

    Yashasvi Jaiswal

Jaiswal is another IPL prodigy who has impressed at times wearing the Indian jersey. His ability to score big and quick can make him number one choice as an opener.

    KL Rahul

Interestingly, Rahul is the most experience cricketer in the format for India after Virat Kohli and Rohit. His performance in the ODI World Cup was stunning but he was ignored this time for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma posed with the T20 World Cup trophy at a beach in Barbados on Monday. The Men in Blue won the 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup after beating South Africa by seven runs at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared the pictures of Rohit where he was seen posing with the prestigious trophy on the beach.

“A billion dreams, a billion emotions, and a billion smiles! Mission accomplished. World Cup conquered. We are World Champions. Hey, Captain! You’ve done it,” BCCI wrote on X while sharing the pictures.

Summarising the final match of the tournament, India won the toss and opted to bat first. After being reduced to 34/3, a counter-attacking partnership between Virat (76) and Axar Patel (47 in 31 balls, with one four and four sixes) of 72 runs restored India’s position in the game. A 57-run stand between Virat and Shivam Dube (27 in 16 balls, with three fours and a six) took India to 176/7 in their 20 overs.

Keshav Maharaj (2/23) and Anrich Nortje (2/26) were the top bowlers for SA. Marco Jansen and Aiden Markram took a wicket each.

In the run chase of 177 runs, Proteas was reduced to 12/2 and then a 58-run partnership between Quinton de Kock (39 in 31 balls, with four boundaries and a six) and Tristan Stubbs (31 in 21 balls, with three fours and a six) brought back SA into the game. A half-century by Heinrich Klaasen (52 in 27 balls, with two fours and five sixes) threatened to take the game away from India.

However, Arshdeep Singh (2/18), Jasprit Bumrah (2/20) and Hardik (3/20) made a fine comeback in death overs, keeping SA to 169/8 in their 20 overs. Virat secured the ‘Player of the Match’ for his performance. Now, by securing their first ICC title since the Champions Trophy in 2013, India has ended their ICC trophy drought.

  • Delhi Metro to open its Phase 4 Priority Corridors by 2026: Details | Railways News

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced on Sunday that it is rapidly advancing with its Phase 4 expansion, aiming to open all three priority corridors comprising 65 kilometers of new lines by 2026. In a post on X, DMRC said that over 50 percent the work on these corridors has been completed. Specifically, the Majlis Park-Maujpur section has reached about 80 percent completion in civil work. Tunneling is ongoing on the Aerocity-Tughlakabad (Golden Line) and Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg (Magenta Line) corridors.

Regarding delays in the project, DMRC explained that despite beginning Phase 4 in December 2019, the project faced significant delays from 2020 to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and challenges in obtaining tree-cutting permissions. The DMRC noted that substantial work on the project has been ongoing for the last one and a half to two years, aiming for completion by 2026. The section from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension is nearly finished and is expected to open by August 2024, with the Majlis Park-Maujpur corridor also slated for completion next year. Other sections will open gradually by 2026. However, the DMRC is still awaiting certain permissions related to tree-cutting and land acquisition at specific sites. High-level site visits are being conducted to expedite the work, and the necessary tree-cutting approvals are actively being pursued. Additionally, two new corridors, Inderlok-Indraprastha and Saket G Block-Lajpat Nagar, have recently received approval. “The project is being monitored at various levels on a day to day basis. Site visits are also taken up at the highest level to expedite the work. Tree cutting permissions are being pursued at appropriate levels.” said DMRC in an official statement. The DMRC is currently securing statutory clearances, including land acquisition, and is in the process of planning and tendering for further civil works, ensuring the project remains on track for its 2026 completion target.

    A Night to Remember

The final between India and South Africa was nothing short of thrilling. India edged out South Africa by 7 runs in a closely contested match that showcased the very best of T20 cricket. Rohit Sharma’s leadership, coupled with standout performances from both seasoned players and newcomers, ensured that the Men in Blue held their nerve in the face of immense pressure.

    Dravid’s Emotional Outburst

The post-match celebrations were charged with emotion, but it was Rahul Dravid who stole the spotlight. As Rohit Sharma jubilantly led the team to collect the trophy, Dravid tried to stay in the background, maintaining his typical low profile. However, Virat Kohli, in a touching gesture, insisted that Dravid join the celebrations and handed him the trophy. What followed was a rare display of pure, unrestrained joy from the man often dubbed “The Wall.” Dravid held the trophy aloft, cheering loudly, and the moment was immortalized as a symbol of hard work, dedication, and the sweet taste of victory.

Kohli and Dravid: A Special Bond

The camaraderie between Kohli and Dravid was palpable. After the trophy presentation, the two shared a warm embrace, symbolizing the unity and respect that defines the current Indian squad. Dravid’s influence on the team, particularly on players like Kohli, has been profound. His strategic acumen and nurturing leadership style have been pivotal in shaping the team’s recent successes.

    The Journey to Glory

India’s journey to the T20 World Cup 2024 title was not without its challenges. The team had faced numerous high-pressure situations over the past few years, often falling just short of glory. Under Dravid’s guidance, however, they learned to thrive under pressure, developing a resilience that was on full display in Barbados. The victory was a testament to the team’s cohesiveness and the meticulous planning and execution behind the scenes.

    Rohit Sharma’s Reflection

Post-match, Rohit Sharma reflected on the team’s journey and the significance of the victory. โ€œVery hard to sum up what we have been through for the last 3-4 years. We work very hard as a team, a lot has gone on behind the scenes. It is not today, it is what we have been doing for the last 3-4 years. We have played lots of high-pressure games and come on the wrong side too. But the guys understand what is to be done when the back is against the wall, we stuck together and the guys, all of us really wanted to win this really bad. I am very proud of this bunch of boys to give us the liberty to play the way we want and execute,โ€ he said.

    A Triumphant Farewell

For Rahul Dravid, this victory was especially poignant. Having never won a World Cup as a player, lifting the T20 World Cup trophy as a coach was a fitting capstone to his illustrious career. Dravid, who has confirmed his decision to step down from his role, leaves behind a legacy of resilience, integrity, and excellence. His final act as coach, celebrating wildly with his team, will be remembered as a defining moment in Indian cricket history.

  • India’s Forex Reserves Rise By $816 Million To Scale 653.7 Billion Mark | Economy News

New Delhi: India’s foreign exchange reserves rose by $816 million to $653.71 billion in the week ended June 21, according to figures released by the RBI on Friday. The country’s forex reserves had contracted by $2.92 billion to $652.9 billion for the week ending on June 14 after rising steadily to a lifetime high in the preceding weeks. The latest figures show a resumption of the rising trend.

Prior to this, India’s foreign exchange reserves surged by $4.3 billion during the week ended June 7 to scale a life-time high of $655.8 billion. An increase in the foreign exchange reserves reflects strong fundamentals of the economy and gives the RBI more headroom to stabilise the rupee when it turns volatile.

A strong forex kitty enables the RBI to intervene in the spot and forward currency markets by releasing more dollars to prevent the rupee from going into a free fall. Conversely, a declining forex kitty leaves the RBI less space to intervene in the market to prop up the rupee.

“India’s external sector remains resilient and overall, we remain confident of meeting our external financing requirements comfortably,” Das said at a press conference after the monetary policy meeting earlier this month.

India’s current account deficit declined to $23.2 billion (0.7 per cent of GDP) during 2023-24 from $67 billion (2 per cent of GDP) during the previous year due to a lower merchandise trade deficit, the RBI said on Monday. Commerce Ministry data shows that India’s exports of goods shot up over 9 per cent in May paving the way for a stronger balance of payments position.

  • Rain arrives in Guyana during India vs England T20 World Cup 2024 Semifinal 2, check weather update | Cricket News

Hours after rain delayed the start for the India vs England T20 World Cup 2024 semifinal 2, fans witnessed a start to a 20-over game after the toss. England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and elected to bowl first. Rohit Sharma’s side came out to bat scoring 46 in the first six overs with the loss of two wickets and just then the rain returned again. However, the umpires decided to keep the play on as the shower was not very heavy.

Earlier today, rain swept through Guyana, casting uncertainty over the crucial match scheduled for Thursday. If rain interrupts play, India, having topped the Super Eights group, would advance to the final, while defending champions England would face elimination. (T20 World Cup 2024: ICC Explains Reason Behind ‘Different Rule’ For India vs England Semifinal 2)

The match-up highlights a battle of T20I titans, with England aiming for a second successive T20 World Cup final and India seeking redemption for their previous defeat. The Men in Blue seek to avenge a brutal 10-wicket loss to the same opponent in the 2022 tournament’s final four clash at Adelaide.

The semi-final promises a showdown between two formidable opening pairs: India’s ‘Ro-Ko’ duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli versus England’s Jos Buttler (191 runs in six innings) and Phil Salt (183 runs in six innings).

However, the pressure of playing in knockouts becomes a different kind of challenge for India, who have fallen short of an ICC trophy nearly every year after semifinal/final qualifications.

According to ESPNcricinfo, as per an ICC spokesperson, overs will only be reduced starting at 2:40 PM, 250 minutes after the scheduled start at 10:30 am. For a 10-over match, the game must start by 4:14 PM local time, the spokesperson added, as per ESPNCricinfo.

According to World Weather, it is currently partly cloudy and 24 degrees Celsius in Georgetown, Guyana. At 9 AM local time, before the 10:30 AM start, light and patchy rain is likely to occur in Guyana. Light rains are forecast every hour till 4 PM, after which the weather will remain partly cloudy for the remainder of the day.

India has been allocated the Guyana semifinal due to match timings, as the 10:30 AM local time slot, corresponding to 8 PM Indian Standard Time, is more TV-friendly. The final, scheduled in Bridgetown, Barbados, on June 29, will commence at 10 AM local time, translating to 7:30 PM in India, according to ESPNCricinfo.

There will be no reserve day for the second semifinal. However, an additional 250 minutes of playing time has been allotted to the match due to the tournament schedule’s constraints. If a reserve day were allocated for semifinal two, it would have meant only a day’s gap for recovery and practice between that game and the final.

The second semifinal could face a tight squeeze if persistent rain occurs because, as per rules, a result can only be decided if both teams bat for at least 10 overs. In most T20 games, teams batting second must bat for at least five overs to constitute a result. This system applied for the majority of ICC T20 World Cup matches and was also the case for knockout games in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.
