The Union Government has launched a landmark program to transform 100 textile-rich districts into global export juggernauts, signaling a new era for one of India’s oldest industries. This cluster-based strategy promises to revitalize production and flood international markets with Made-in-India fabrics. Selection criteria prioritized districts with high artisan density and port proximity, spanning from the looms of Varanasi to the powerlooms of Surat. The blueprint encompasses infrastructure upgrades, like effluent treatment plants and solar-powered units, to meet stringent global sustainability standards. Financial backing from schemes like Production Linked Incentive (PLI) will inject billions, fostering both MSME growth and giant mills. Job creation is a cornerstone, with projections of millions of direct and indirect opportunities, empowering marginalized communities and local artisan groups.
