In a decisive operation in Chhattisgarh, security forces have successfully neutralized 18 Naxalites, including a key commander, during a fierce encounter in the Bijapur district. The operation was conducted in the forested terrain near the Bijapur-Dantewada border. A substantial collection of firearms, including AK-47 and INSAS rifles, and ammunition was recovered from the neutralized militants.

Among the deceased was Modiyam Vella, a prominent Maoist commander belonging to the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA). Vella was a high-value target, with a reward of Rs 8 lakh offered for information leading to his capture. He was allegedly responsible for orchestrating multiple lethal attacks, including the 2020 Minpa ambush which claimed the lives of 17 security personnel.

The operation also resulted in the martyrdom of three District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel: Head Constable Monu Vadadi, Constable Dukaru Gonde, and Jawan Ramesh Sodhi. Additionally, two other DRG personnel suffered injuries and are under medical treatment.

This encounter marks another significant success in Chhattisgarh’s ongoing battle against Left-Wing Extremism. The state has witnessed the neutralization of 275 Naxalites this year, primarily in the Bastar region. While these operations are critical in restoring peace, they underscore the persistent danger and the bravery of the security forces engaged in this critical mission.
