In a major counter-insurgency success, Chhattisgarh security forces have neutralized 18 Naxalites in an encounter that took place in the Bijapur district. The operation, which unfolded in the forest areas near the Bijapur-Dantewada border, resulted in a significant loss for Naxal groups. Officials confirmed that the death toll among the Maoists reached 18, with the recovery of six additional bodies after the initial engagement. A notable figure among the neutralized insurgents was Modiyam Vella, a commander identified as part of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), who was actively involved in subversive activities and had a substantial bounty on his head. The security forces also managed to recover a substantial amount of weaponry, including sophisticated AK-47 and INSAS rifles, along with other ammunition. The operation also resulted in the tragic loss of three brave District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel, who were martyred in the line of duty. Two other DRG members sustained injuries. This year marks a period of intense action against Naxalism in Chhattisgarh, with security forces accounting for the neutralization of over 275 insurgents statewide, reflecting the ongoing commitment to eradicating left-wing extremism.
