The weather in Chhattisgarh is poised to turn unsettled, with rain expected in various parts of the state today. The capital, Raipur, has experienced cloudy skies and light showers this morning. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heavy rain and thunderstorms in the central and southern regions.

Multiple districts are under alert due to the anticipated inclement weather. An orange alert is in effect for Gariaband, Mahasamund, Raipur, Baloda Bazar, Janjgir-Champa, Raigarh, Bilaspur, Korba, Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, Bemetara, Mungeli, Surguja, Surajpur, Korea, and Balrampur, signaling a high chance of thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds (30-40 kmph), and moderate rainfall. A yellow alert has been issued for Sukma, Bijapur, South Bastar Dantewada, Bastar, Narayanpur, Kondagaon, North Bastar Kanker, Dhamtari, Balod, Rajnandgaon, Gariaband, Mahasamund, Raipur, Baloda Bazar, Janjgir-Champa, Raigarh, Bilaspur, Korba, Jashpur, Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, Durg, Bemetara, Kabirdham, Mungeli, Surguja, Surajpur, Korea, and Balrampur, where moderate rainfall is expected.

A low-pressure area is currently situated over the coastal areas of Gangetic West Bengal, North Odisha, and the northwestern Bay of Bengal. This system is associated with a cyclonic circulation extending up to approximately 7.6 kilometers in altitude, which is predicted to weaken within the next day. Two troughs are also influencing the weather; one stretches from Gangetic West Bengal to Telangana (1.5-3.1 km altitude), while the other spans from Gangetic West Bengal to the south Maharashtra coast, passing through Odisha, South Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and North Interior Karnataka (4.5-5.8 km altitude).

These weather systems are expected to bring light to moderate rainfall or scattered thundershowers throughout the state today. Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning are also possible in some areas. Central Chhattisgarh is forecast to be the primary area impacted by the rainfall.

Weather experts are also anticipating the formation of a new low-pressure area over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and the adjoining central Bay of Bengal on September 25. This system is expected to move westward, potentially intensifying into a depression, and is projected to arrive near the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coast around September 27. This could lead to heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Bastar division and surrounding districts from September 26.
