Authorities in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district have welcomed the surrender of 21 Maoist cadres, 13 of whom are women, on Sunday. This latest group has laid down their arms and chosen to reintegrate into society through the ‘Poona Margem’ rehabilitation initiative. The surrender included a significant number of Naxalites holding responsible positions, such as Division Committee Secretary Mukesh and various area committee members, alongside grassroots participants from the Kuemari/Kiskodo Area Committee. The surrendered weapons represent a considerable loss for the Maoist outfit, featuring three AK-47s, two INSAS rifles, four SLRs, six .303 rifles, two single-shot rifles, and a Barrel Grenade Launcher. This development continues a positive trend in the Bastar region, where previous mass surrenders have significantly weakened rebel presence. The police’s focused approach on rehabilitation is proving highly effective in reducing armed conflict and fostering peace.
