China has responded to former President Donald Trump’s tariff threats, specifically regarding the relationship with Russia. Foreign Minister Wang Yi criticized Trump’s proposal of imposing 50-100% tariffs on China, clarifying China’s stance on the matter. Wang Yi stated that China would focus on resolving issues through peace talks and would not implement reciprocal tariffs.

Speaking at a media conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Wang Yi said that war is not a solution and sanctions only make things worse. China does not participate in wars and promotes peace talks, favoring political solutions through dialogue.

Wang Yi also highlighted China’s role as a responsible nation, emphasizing its commitment to peace and security. He called for promoting multilateralism, strengthening multilateral mechanisms, and protecting the principles of the UN Charter.

He further stated that amid the global chaos and conflicts, China and Europe should be friends.

These comments followed Trump’s call for additional tariffs on Chinese purchases of Russian oil until the end of the Ukraine conflict. In a Truth Social post, Trump criticized NATO’s commitment and the purchase of Russian oil by some members.

Trump said that these actions weaken the position of the negotiating countries.
