China’s Wang Yi to Visit India for Border Talks Amidst Thawing Relations

Sources suggest that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is likely to visit India later this month to participate in the Special Representative-level talks. Representing India in these discussions will be National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. This visit comes at a time when India and China are working towards improving their relationship. Recent developments include the resumption of high-level discussions between the two countries, including meetings between Foreign Minister Wang Yi and India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to meet during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China, later this month. China has welcomed Prime Minister Modi’s participation in the SCO Summit, scheduled to be held in Tianjin at the end of August. The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson expressed the belief that the summit would enhance regional cooperation. The SCO Summit in Tianjin will take place from August 31 to September 1, with the participation of leaders from over 20 countries, including all SCO member states, and heads of 10 international organizations. Furthermore, India and China have reached an agreement to disengage and resume patrolling in the Depsang Plains and Demchok areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has also been restarted, symbolizing the strengthening of people-to-people connections and cultural diplomacy. The countries have also resumed tourist visas and seen a revival in business relations.
