Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu flew over the gas leak-stricken Konaseema region, assessing the havoc wrought on coconut plantations and issuing on-the-spot compensation instructions. The aerial review painted a grim picture of agricultural losses in this vital Andhra Pradesh district.

The leak from a nearby facility released hazardous gases that drifted into farmlands, scorching leaves and killing saplings across hundreds of hectares. Coconut farmers, already battling erratic weather, now confront an unforeseen crisis threatening their survival.

During the flight, Naidu conferred with revenue and agriculture secretaries, demanding swift enumeration of losses and direct bank transfers for relief. He assured full government backing, including technical aid for rehabilitation.

‘These groves feed families and fuel our markets. We stand with Konaseema’s farmers,’ Naidu affirmed. Ground teams are now verifying claims, prioritizing smallholders. The compensation framework includes provisions for lost produce and tree replacement.

This proactive aerial intervention has boosted morale among distressed growers. It also reignites debates on industrial zoning away from farms. With probes underway, the state vows accountability alongside relief. Konaseema’s resilience will be tested, but Naidu’s directives offer a lifeline amid the debris.
