The US is set to impose a 25% tariff on India, starting August 1, 2025, as announced by Donald Trump. The former president cited India’s trade practices and its relationship with Russia, particularly its purchases of military equipment and energy, as the basis for the tariffs. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry responded by stating it is reviewing the impact of the announcement and is prepared to take all actions necessary to protect national interests. The ministry highlighted ongoing discussions for a comprehensive trade agreement, emphasizing its dedication to supporting Indian businesses and farmers. Trump has since indicated that he is open to further negotiations with India.
