The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is undertaking the construction of a 380 km long Greenfield Expressway in Uttar Pradesh, aligned with the Green Highways Policy. The Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway is designed to improve connectivity by linking Noida, Ghaziabad, and Kanpur, thus bolstering the state’s road infrastructure. When completed, the travel duration between these crucial industrial centers will be approximately five hours.

The expressway will stretch across 380 km and pass through nine districts. It is initially being built with four lanes, but can be expanded to six lanes to accommodate increased traffic. The project emphasizes environmental sustainability, with a target completion year of 2026.

The route will traverse through Ghaziabad, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Kasganj, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Unnao, and Kanpur.

In the future, NHAI intends to extend this expressway to Jewar Airport in Noida, to enhance regional connectivity. The expressway will link to the 62.7 km Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway at its southern end, while the northern end will connect to National Highway 9. The expressway is projected to save about three hours of travel time from Ghaziabad to Kanpur.

This project is intended to stimulate regional trade and ease the burden on current highways. The contemporary route, linking Noida, Ghaziabad, and Kanpur, is anticipated to benefit local businesses, transportation firms, daily commuters and promote social and economic advancement within the state.
