Tejashwi Yadav, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, is facing legal action after a social media post critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Cases have been registered against him in multiple states within a short span of time. The post in question featured a cartoon and has resulted in FIRs in both Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.

In Maharashtra, the case was filed on the complaint of BJP MLA Milind Ramji Narote from Gadchiroli. Narote alleged that Yadav shared an offensive post targeting Prime Minister Modi. The Gadchiroli police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. This legal action could significantly impact Yadav’s political and legal standing.

Simultaneously, in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur, the BJP’s city president, Shilpi Gupta, filed a complaint that led to a case at the Sadar Bazar police station. Gupta stated that Yadav’s comments against the Prime Minister have caused anger nationwide, and called for strict action.

The heart of the issue is a cartoon shared by Yadav on social media. The cartoon described Prime Minister Modi’s Gaya rally as a ‘shop of rhetoric.’ The post, shared on X before the rally, showed the Prime Minister as a shopkeeper. The sign in the shop read, ‘Famous shop of rhetoric.’ Yadav’s post also demanded that Modi account for his time in power and the NDA government’s performance.

Yadav’s post included the statement: ‘Today in Gaya, a shop of lies and rhetoric will be set up!’ He further stated that the people of Bihar would dismantle the lies and rhetoric. The post also asked for an account of the Modi government’s tenure.

During a public gathering in Gaya, Prime Minister Modi criticized the RJD, referencing the challenges associated with the ‘lantern rule’ in the past.
