With Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday approaching on September 17th, a political controversy has emerged. Congress leader Udit Raj has made a significant prediction that the Prime Minister will resign on his birthday. Raj’s statement is tied to what he says are age-related expectations previously set by PM Modi. The opposition has repeatedly brought up the topic of PM Modi’s retirement, especially after Amit Shah’s comments. The Congress is now concentrating on Modi’s possible retirement at 75, referencing prior remarks made by RSS leader Mohan Bhagwat. Bhagwat subsequently provided clarification, stating he never established a mandatory retirement age. Narendra Damodardas Modi was born on September 17, 1950, in Mehsana, Gujarat. He was the Chief Minister of Gujarat for three terms (2001-14) and has been Prime Minister since 2014. On July 25, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge questioned whether Modi would retire at 75, referencing the RSS’s previous stance. Kharge also pointed out that Modi had removed senior BJP leaders like L.K. Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, suggesting he was enforcing this rule. Mohan Bhagwat, while speaking on July 9 in Nagpur, said that turning 75 meant making way for others. However, during a later event, Bhagwat made it clear that he never said that people had to retire at 75. Amit Shah, in May 2023, said that the BJP constitution doesn’t have any retirement rules, and Modi would continue to be in charge until 2029. Rajnath Singh also refuted the claims that such a decision had been made.
