The Madras High Court delivered a resounding verdict in favor of ‘Leo’, the pan-India smash hit starring Thalapathy Vijay. Directing the CBFC to issue ‘UA’ certification forthwith, the court put an end to the certification standoff that had lingered post-release.

Helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and backed by a stellar cast including Sanjay Dutt and Trisha, ‘Leo’ redefined Tamil cinema’s global reach. Clocking record-breaking footfalls, it faced an unexpected roadblock when CBFC withheld UA clearance despite compliance with cut suggestions.

In a detailed hearing, Justice Anand Venkatesh pulled up the examining committee for arbitrary demands. The court reviewed revised prints showing deletions of violent sequences, questioning why further tweaks were insisted upon after theatrical success.

“Censorship must not stifle entertainment approved by audiences,” the judgment stated firmly. With a 24-hour deadline imposed, the order ensures ‘Leo’ retains its universal appeal rating nationwide.

This development arrives amid rising calls for CBFC overhaul, with ‘Leo’s case spotlighting delays plaguing high-profile releases. Vijay’s unwavering fanbase erupts in joy, viewing it as vindication of their hero’s boundary-pushing cinema.

Ultimately, the ruling champions timely certification, fostering a healthier ecosystem for Indian filmmakers chasing ambitious storytelling.
