A grim honour killing case that stretched across multiple Indian states has been meticulously solved by law enforcement. The bodies of a young couple from Bihar were discovered in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district, leading to the arrest of two of the woman’s brothers. The investigation involved tracking the couple’s movements through Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.

The victims, a 19-year-old woman and her husband Dukhan Shaw, 22, had married in June against her family’s wishes and were living in Valsad, Gujarat. Their disappearance in September prompted a complaint from Shaw’s brother, who accused the woman’s siblings of kidnapping. This suspicion led investigators to explore the possibility of honour killing.

A significant development occurred when a body, later suspected to be the woman’s, was found in Sonbhadra on September 24. Despite initial difficulties in identification due to the district’s strategic border location, the case was cracked through inter-state police cooperation. Gujarat police shared crucial information about the missing couple with Sonbhadra authorities, enabling them to trace the couple’s travel route.

Evidence gathered, including photographic identification by the husband’s family and confirmation from Bihar police regarding the family’s objections to the marriage, pointed towards the woman’s brothers. The two arrested individuals, Munna Kumar and Rahul alias Siddharth, have reportedly admitted to killing the couple and disposing of their bodies in a secluded area after luring them from Gujarat with a false promise of reconciliation. Two other brothers, Mukesh and Rakesh, are currently being sought by the authorities.
