Production at Jaguar and Land Rover factories worldwide has been suspended for three weeks because of a cyberattack that began on September 1. The attack has affected the entire brand, causing production shutdowns, disruptions to parts ordering, and retail operations. The estimated daily financial loss is approximately Rs 60 crore.

The initial consequence was that dealerships were unable to book vehicles. The company responded on September 2 by shutting down systems in an attempt to contain the issue.

The hacker group Scattered Lapsus$ has claimed responsibility for the attack, having previously targeted Marks and Spencer. JLR has confirmed that customer data was compromised, prompting investigations and assistance from police and cybersecurity experts. The production halt is expected to continue at least until September 24, disrupting the supply chain and potentially endangering suppliers. Aston Martin’s CEO has indicated that layoffs may be necessary.
