An attack by a suspected Israeli-linked hacking group has reportedly disabled Iran’s Bank Sepah, deleting crucial data and preventing customer access. The group, known as Gonjeshke Darande (Predatory Sparrow), made the claim in social media posts. The bank’s official website went offline following the announcement. No response has been given by the subsidiary in London. This group has previously claimed responsibility for attacks in Iran, including a steel plant fire and a gas station shutdown, raising suspicions of state involvement. The cyberattack coincides with ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel, including missile strikes. According to the former NSA cyber chief, these attacks could significantly destabilize the Iranian economy by eroding confidence in its banking system. Iranian officials have not issued a detailed statement, and Israel typically does not comment on such operations. The recovery of the bank’s data remains uncertain.
