Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent trip to Cyprus saw a blend of cultural respect and official recognition. A member of the Nicosia Council, Michaela Kythreoti Mhlapa, welcomed PM Modi at the Centre of Nicosia with a traditional gesture of touching his feet, which PM Modi acknowledged with a blessing. In a separate event, President Nikos Christodoulides bestowed upon PM Modi the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, Cyprus’s highest honor. The award commemorates contributions to the nation. PM Modi expressed his appreciation, noting the honor’s symbolism of shared values and commitment to the two nations. This historic visit, the first by an Indian PM to Cyprus in over twenty years, also included interactions with the Indian community and local business leaders. The visit was an opportunity to deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.
