Cracking down on vehicular crime, Delhi Police’s elite squad arrested three hardened criminals from an auto lifting gang, unearthing 16 stolen vehicles hidden in makeshift godowns on the city’s fringes. The haul marks one of the biggest recoveries this quarter, striking at the heart of Delhi’s thriving theft ecosystem.

The breakthrough came via cyber surveillance, where police analyzed CCTV footage from multiple theft scenes. Patterns emerged pointing to a coordinated team using stolen motorcycles for quick getaways. A sting operation in Rohini culminated in the arrests without a shot fired.

The suspects, all in their late 20s and early 30s, spilled details during interrogation. They revealed a workshop in Baghpat where vehicles were chopped up overnight. High-demand parts like batteries and meters were dispatched to Delhi’s unauthorized repair shops, fueling a parallel economy.

Police recovered vehicles reported missing from areas like Uttam Nagar, Mayur Vihar, and Dwarka. Each had been professionally stripped, but timely intervention saved the remnants. ‘Our focus is dismantling the entire chain—from thieves to buyers,’ asserted the investigating officer.

This case highlights vulnerabilities in Delhi’s parking infrastructure and the gang’s exploitation of festive season chaos. With digital FIR portals aiding faster tracing, recoveries are up 40% year-on-year. The trio’s prior records include jail terms for robbery, signaling deeper criminal ties under scrutiny.

As the capital gears up for peak traffic hours, enhanced night patrols and community watch programs are being rolled out. Owners are advised to use wheel locks and share live locations. This operation not only returns assets but deters future heists, fostering safer roads ahead.
