In the run-up to Tamil Nadu’s high-stakes assembly elections, alliance partners DMK and Congress are accelerating negotiations. A significant breakthrough appeared on the horizon following a strategic meeting in Delhi between DMK’s Kanimozhi Karunanidhi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

The discussions, which spanned about an hour, covered seat allocation strategies and alliance synchronization. Sources indicate Kanimozhi shared a preliminary inventory of assembly seats earmarked for Congress, selected after careful analysis of previous poll results and regional political equations.

DMK’s overture includes 27 legislative assembly seats and possible endorsement for a Rajya Sabha position, though Congress seeks 30. No official word emerged post-meeting, but participants view it optimistically as a foundation for prompt resolution, freeing resources for voter outreach and nominee finalization.

Kanimozhi raised alarms about indiscreet comments from certain state Congress voices, imploring Rahul to maintain internal harmony publicly. She advocated burying hatchets to forge a solid bloc capable of withstanding opposition onslaughts and sustaining electoral faith.

Set against Tamil Nadu’s charged political atmosphere, this rendezvous highlights the urgency of alliance fortification. Both formations are determined to sustain their collaboration, anticipating additional talks to clinch seat accords and dispel doubts, potentially reshaping the state’s power dynamics.
